Aaron Alme, MD

A fourth-generation Montanan, Alme was raised on the Hi-Line of northern Montana, just south of the Sweetgrass Hills, on his family’s farm. He remains grateful to both the community and teachers in Sunburst. After graduating from Carroll College in Helena, he completed his medical training in Seattle, Boise, and Omaha.

He and his wife, Erin, and their boys, Cole and Luke, enjoy family adventures including camping, hiking, and flying, as well as skiing and mountain biking.

Roger Barth, MD

Dr. Barth was raised in Eastern Washington and first came to the Flathead Valley on family ski trips as a child. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Washington and continued there for medical school. After medical school he completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Barth culminated his training with a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Iowa.

In 1991 Dr. Barth joined Glacier Eye Clinic. His primary professional interests are cataract surgery, glaucoma and macular degeneration. He is Board Certified in ophthalmology. He has served as president of the Montana Academy of Ophthalmology, The Flathead Medical Society and has been a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Patient Education Committee. He has been Chief of Staff at Kalispell Regional Hospital and continues to serve on several hospital committees.

Dr. Barth enjoys traveling with his wife to visit their three grown children. They have participated in many mission trips providing eye care in South America. For fun Dr. Barth enjoys hiking, skiing, golfing and yard work.

Mark Goerlitz-Jessen, MD

Originally from the Salt Lake Valley, Mark Jessen received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University. He and his family then moved East as he completed medical school and internship in Pennsylvania followed by ophthalmology residency training at Duke University. Prior to joining Glacier Eye Clinic in 2021, he spent a year in Minneapolis for additional specialty training in corneal transplantation, refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK), and complex anterior segment surgery with Minnesota Eye Consultants.

Mark, Jena, and their four boys enjoy sports, outdoor activities, travel, and food. They are thrilled to be back in the Mountain West and look forward to immersing themselves in the community here in the Flathead Valley.

Tyler Ofstad, MD PhD

A native of the Flathead Valley, Dr. Ofstad grew up in nearby Polson. He earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University where he graduated with honors in biological sciences. He went on to receive his medical degree and a PhD in neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego. After medical school, Dr. Ofstad completed his internship at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane, followed by his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester. He returned to the University of California, San Diego to complete a fellowship in VitreoRetinal Surgery. Dr. Ofstad joined Glacier Eye Clinic in August 2019.

Dr. Ofstad specializes in cataract surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of vitreous and retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment, and retinal vascular diseases. He is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

He and his wife, Anna, have three children. In their free time they enjoy cycling, skiing, fishing, and hiking in the mountains.

Mark Remington, MD

Dr. Remington attended the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University. He graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He did his internship at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT, and his residency in Ophthalmology at University of Cincinnati. He completed additional training in oculoplastic surgery.

Dr. Remington joined Glacier Eye Clinic in 1998. He is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of Montana Medical Association and American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Gus Stein, MD

Dr. Stein grew up in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He earned his undergraduate degree from Carroll College in Helena, MT, where he graduated with honors with a major in biology as well as chemistry and theology minors. It was during a summer as a counselor at Legendary Lodge that he made his first visit to Kalispell and fell in love with the Flathead Valley. Dr. Stein completed his medical school, internship, and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington in Seattle. He then was awarded a Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus fellowship through Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Stein joined Glacier Eye Clinic in August 2013. His professional interests include cataract surgery, pediatric eye disease, and strabismus. He is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Montana Academy of Ophthalmology, Montana Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Dr. Stein has done medical mission work in Ecuador and worked as a habilitation trainer with autistic children. He and his wife, Jen have two children. For fun he enjoys hiking, skiing, boating, following his favorite sports teams, and attempting to golf.

William "Wade" Stoddard, MD

Dr. Stoddard was raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he developed a love of the outdoors, camping, river rafting, skiing, and hiking.

After studying jazz guitar at the Thornton School of Music, he obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and then completed medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. From there he completed his internal medicine internship in Denver, and his residency training in ophthalmology at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles, California. He elected to specialize in glaucoma, and completed his glaucoma fellowship at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2021. He worked as an ophthalmologist focusing on cataract and glaucoma surgery at Confluence Health in Wenatchee, Washington, from 2021 to 2024, until the opportunity arose to move to Kalispell to be closer to family.

He met the love of his life during his internal medicine internship in Denver, married during his training at UCLA, and their family has grown to include three young children. His parents and sister have since moved to Montana, and Dr. Stoddard is grateful to have the opportunity to have his family flourish in the Flathead Valley.

Mackenzie Fai, OD

Mackenzie “Mack” Fai originally hails from Alberta, Canada. After completing his bachelors of science in geophysics with distinction from the University of Calgary, he decided to jump stateside and attend optometry school at Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon.

After completing clinical rotations in Vision Therapy and Ocular disease in San Diego and Salt Lake City, respectively, he finally made his way back north to Montana.

In his spare time you can find him rock climbing, mountaineering or cycling. If you see him on the trails be sure to say hi!

Frances Mangahas, OD

Originally from the Midwest, Fran grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago, IL. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Afterwards, she decided to stay in the city and graduated with her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry.

During her time as a student, she worked at the Captain James A. Lovell VA hospital and naval base, and traveled to Melbourne, Australia for her rotations. Her special interests include ocular disease, dry eye, surgical co-management, and pediatrics.

Fran and her husband decided on a change of scenery and recently moved from Minnesota to Flathead Valley. They enjoy spending time hiking, camping, fishing and all things outdoors. Her other hobbies include cooking and reading. She is excited to see all the valley has to offer!

Jonathan Olsen, OD

Positive, outgoing and full of energy, Jonathan Olsen’s cheerful disposition helps him connect with people. Jonathan grew up in a small town in Alberta, Canada. Jonathan and his wife, Amber, have resided in Kalispell since 2004. They have three sons and a daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family. Some of his hobbies include hiking, mountain biking and water activities. He is active in church and youth group activities.

Jonathan graduated from Indiana University as a Doctor of Optometry in 2001. He pursued specialty training in refractive surgery at the Salt Lake Eye Institute, medical co-management and contact lens training from the Indianapolis Eye Care Center. He enjoys the variety of patients and challenges that are presented on a daily basis. Co-management on a variety of surgical patients are a significant part of his day to day clinic. He particularly enjoys working with younger patients.

Marie Roach, OD

Marie Roach grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Biological Sciences. Marie then went on to graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. She spent time at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Medical Center during one of her externship rotations.

Marie strives to make her patients feel comfortable and connects easily with people. She enjoys working with all ages and takes great pride in helping her patients see the world clearer.

Marie and her husband have resided in the Flathead Valley since 2016 along with their two daughters. For fun she enjoys hiking in the mountains of Montana, biking, swimming, camping, fishing, and is an avid runner.

Lucas Schmidt, OD

Dr. Schmidt is a Wisconsin native. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. He graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, Tomb & Key Honor Fraternity, and Gold Key Optometric Honor Society.

Dr. Schmidt then completed an ocular disease residency, strengthening his passion for the management of complex ocular conditions.

In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, running, and camping with his wife.
